Members should continue to remind their staff, particularly those that are newly appointed and/or part-time that both the Environmental Health Officers (Tobacco), An Garda Síochána ( Alcohol) and various Field Sales operators (National Lottery) carry out their respective Test Purchases during periods when there is a ready supply of youngsters who are not busying themselves with school.
The most simple and effective way of keeping within the law is to INSIST that your staff seek photo ID that has the date of birth as part of the document/card.
Whether it is a tobacco , alcohol, or Lottery product, the law is very clear, a retailer commits an offence if they sell, or offer to sell these products to a minor.
