We are providing members with a news item outlining the prosecution of a hotel in Co. Clare for a breach of Public Health legislation; the offence was allowing a minor access to tobacco products via a vending machine.
The Environmental Health Officer accompanied a 14 year old girl into the hotel and observed her receiving the token for the self-service vending machine. The girl was able to purchase a tobacco product having inserted the token into the machine. 14 years old!
Can you be absolutely certain that none of your staff would sell tobacco, alcohol or a lottery product to a 14 year old girl?
You need to reiterate to all of your staff – full time, part time and casual the importance of seeking valid photo I.D.
