Every few years, a variation on a theme is dusted off and re-used in an effort to separate storeowners from their hard-earned cash.
The updated version involves vaping products.
Man arrives with a box (or more) of vaping products, asks by name for the owner and has a delivery Order printed with the store name written into it. When informed he isn’t, asks the cashier to take delivery and pay for the products, he is a very good con man and gets paid very frequently.
Owner comes in a blows a fuse!!!
This scam has been around literally since Victorian times and works only because there isn’t a Universal and Unconditional rule in place regarding Cash Purchases.
REMIND YOUR STAFF TODAY AND MAKE SURE ALL NEW ENTRANTS ARE MADE AWARE OF THIS RULE.
Payzone – Fraudulent Activity Regarding Prepaid Vouchers And Cards:
It has come to our attention this week that a number of retailers have received fraudulent calls from a person claiming to be a Payzone representative and asking them to print prepaid vouchers and cards.
Payzone and its partners will never phone or visit a retailer and ask you to print a voucher.
Do not print or communicate voucher numbers to any individual on the phone.
There is a risk associated with transactions where the cardholder is not present. A chargeback request can follow.
Without authentication through PIN, the retailer has not received enough authentication and therefore, is liable for the transaction.
Pin requests are the safest way to ensure a secure transaction.
Payzone have put together a printable notice for you to place in staff areas of your store as a reminder of how to manage prepaid products, and to remain vigilant.
