Government Agrees To Further Regulation Of E-Cigarettes

We note from various reports that the Cabinet has given specific permission to the Minister for Health to bring forward the ( 7 years!!) long- awaited legislation regarding vaping products. There hasn’t been sufficient criticism directed at the Department for their total disregard of the need to ensure that retailers, suppliers and, perhaps most importantly, the public, were adequately protected by legislation designed to prevent access of nicotine-inhaling products to minors.

We will await the actual Bill before making specific points but if it doesn’t provide for preventing secondary or proxy purchasing, as is done in the UK and Northern Ireland, it will not be successful in combatting what all of society accepts to be a scourge of minors using these products.

The Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly T.D. and the Minister for Public Health, Frank Feighan T.D., today (22 November) received Government approval to introduce additional restrictions on the sale and advertising of nicotine inhaling products such as e-cigarettes.  See Here
