Gus O’Hara
Gus was born into the retail industry, his parents running a grocery shop in Foxford, Co Mayo from the 50s.
He worked with both Quinnsworth and H. Williams in management roles and was a Buying Executive with H. Williams until 1987.
Gus opened his first convenience store in Raheny, Dublin in 1988 under Spar and progressed to own and operate two Spar stores in Clontarf, Dublin up until recently. He still operates a Spar store at Stiles Road, Clontarf.
History as a member of the national executive:
National Executive level and his second term as current National President, having previously served in 2005/6.
Gus was awarded the Convenience Champion of the year’s in 2017 in that years Shelflife Awards.
Being part of an organisation of fellow retailers and supporting one another is core to my membership.
Benefits of being a member of the CSNA:
Why join the CSNA – It is simple – no one knows our business better than other retailers , not your suppliers, wholesalers or bankers. The buck stops with us. It is vital to have the ear of a fellow retailer.
What other advice would you like to give to retailers thinking to join the CSNA?
I know that when I have a business issue I need to tease out I have Vincent in our CSNA office and a host of other retailers to consult with, and I value their opinion.
CSNA are a trade organisation, not for profit and with the members interest at the centre of all advice given.
Over my many years of membership I truly know that my membership fee has been paid back to me many times over.
