Irish Water – Trade Effluent Licence

Many members, especially those in the Dublin area will recall the implementation of a Compliance regime for Fats Oils and Greases (FOG) and the discovery by many that although a Trade Effluent Discharge Licence was a legal requirement, many Local Authorities did not insist on them when Planning Permission was obtained. The FOG regime changed that, and most Food Service Establishments were obliged to obtain one.

Other businesses that use the drains to discharge wastewater were not “captured ” by FOG compliance (hairdressers for instance) but it would appear that a concerted effort is being made to ensure that all commercial users of water will pay a (once off) €380 if they don’t already have a licence.

There is a detailed pamphlet (view here) which outlines the new regime – we will return to this over the next few weeks.
