Reach Publishing Group’s deal to buy the publisher of the Irish Daily Star from Independent News & Media has been cleared by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission.
Reach announced the deal to buy Independent News & Media’s 50% stake in Independent Star Ltd, the publisher of the Irish Daily Star, in July.
The acquisition is expected to be completed later this year.
Jim Mullen, chief executive Officer of Reach, said the company had bought a 50% stake in The Irish Daily Star in 2018 so it was a natural next step for it to acquire the remaining 50%.
Reach Publishing Group Limited is part of Reach – a UK-based newspaper publishing group.
